The zesty spicy ginger root is loved not only for flavor but for immediate relief of fatigue and clarity that makes to crave this herb. I like to use this root in ginger chicken curry, ginger milk tea and ginger green tea.

Benefits

I can't think of any drink that is so easy to make and so packed with antioxidants. Here are very few benefits of ginger lemonade.

  • Ginger is great to treat fatigue, headache, cold, and indigestion.
  • It also burns fats and helps weight loss. And when you pair it with lemon, honey, black salt, and roasted cumin. It is both refreshing and good for health.
  • Ginger and lemon both are rich in oxidants and help overall immunity.
  • Ginger lemonade is particularly great after heavy meals as it helps digestion, fights nausea, and makes you feel good.
  • This recipe uses natural sugar like honey and jaggery which makes it healthy. Find more benefits of ginger here!

I relish lemony drinks. Even my strawberry lemonade and mint lemonade, which are both alcohol-free, are not to be missed.

What goes into this recipe?

As the name suggests, this ginger lemonade requires lemon, ginger, and water as the main ingredients. The rest are just flavor enhancers. See the ingredients below to make this drink.

  • Water: I have used water to make this drink. If you want to be more fancy, you can use soda, sparkling water, or even white fizzy drinks like Sprite or 7 Up.
  • Ginger: Use fresh and firm ginger make sure the skin of the ginger is without any mold or dark spots.
  • Lemon juice: Freshly squeezed lenmon juice will make all the difference. Avoid pre made or artificial flavours.
  • Honey: This ginger lemonade is sugar-free as I avoid white sugar. I used honey, but you can definitely substitute it with jaggery or maple syrup.
  • Black salt: It is also known as Kala Namak or Himalayan black salt, easily available at Indian or Pakistani grocery stores. This ingredient helps to mellow down the tartness and bitterness of the drink.
  • Cumin: I have used ground and roasted cumin. You can skip this if you want..
  • Ice cubes: To chill this drink.

How to make this recipe?

Let your judgment guide you in making this ginger lemonade. As last taste test is always a crucial step in all homemade drinks.

  1. Put peeled ginger and water in a blender to blend into a smooth liquid.
  2. Add lemon juice.
  3. Add black salt and roasted ground cumin powder.
  4. Filter the liquid with a strainer and serve with ice cubes.
  5. Alternately, you can also use half water in blending and add half club soda just before serving to give this drink a further kick.

Expert tips

  • Lemonade secret ratio: The perfect balance for ginger limeade or lemonade is a 1:4 ratio of lemon juice to water. So, if you want 10 cups of lemonade, add 2 cups of lemon juice to 8 cups of water.
  • Chilling: To avoid diluting the flavor ice cubes, start with slightly less water so the melting ice balances the recipe. Add more ice in the glass, not the pitcher, when serving.
  • Freezing concentrate: You can make a concentrate of the blended ginger and lemon juice and freeze it in ice cube trays for later use.

How to serve?

Ginger Lemonade is best served after a spicy dinner in summers to aid digestion and chill the heat.

Yo can also drink it as post workout to cool the body, relief fatigue and aid weight loss. Make sure to control the honey intake in the recipe to reduce excess calorie intake.

You can also take this lemon and ginger water first thing in the morning on empty stomach for weight loss.

Variations

While many suggest making detox with soaked Lemon and ginger. I strongly feel lemon slices when soaked in water make the drink bitter and unpleasant. So this ginger lemonade is great to enjoy all benefits without tasting bad.

  • To reduce calories use less honey and balance it with rock salt that also boasts the taste.
  • Both black salt and toasted cumin mellow the spice of ginger and the tartness of lemon. So all ingredients in this drink complement each other for great taste.
  • In fact, you can cut water and add soda to ginger lemon drink to make a fizzy soft drink for guests which will help digestion after a formally heavy dinner.
